5 Things To Start Doing When You Want To Reconnect With God.

Do you ever feel that you are disconnected from God? I sure have! I sometimes get frustrated with myself if I don't pray as much as I used to or if I don't read the Bible regularly. Have you ever experienced this? While sometimes life's busyness can keep us from connecting with God, please always know that even when we feel disconnected, we are still connected because God is still there. What can we do when we want to reconnect with God? I believe the following are the top five things that can be done and are effective if you are trying to reconnect with God. Remember, these are not listed in any particular order, except for the first one. I'll get right to it.

Pray

Of course, the first thing that we can do to reconnect with God is to pray. It's okay to let God know how you are feeling. Start with an apology for being so distant or busy. Ask God to help you find ways to spend time with him.

Worship

For me personally, worship is just alone time with yourself while ushering in the presence of God. Everyone's worship is different and that is perfectly okay. I sometimes listen to music during my worship time. The lyrics remind of me of God's promises. Sometimes the lyrics bring correction as well. Remember that God can speak to you through any avenue or platform. He can speak through people, music, movies, and the list goes on. Someone else might be worshipping God through meditation or by simply sitting and thanking him. However you worship God is entirely up to you..

Listen to your heart for instructions from God

I was undecided on how I wanted to title this one because on one hand I wanted to say "do what God tells you to do", but as I was writing "listen to your heart" kept coming to me. They go hand in hand though. Our gifts and talents (things we are good at) are often natural, but we also have things that God has called us to do, which may or may not be what we are naturally good at. The thing is that, when we do what He puts on our hearts, it brings us closer to him. Quite honestly, blogging is one of the ways that I reconnect with God. When I wrote my previous blog post "How to make sure that God hears your prayers forever", that was the first post I had written in two years. For the longest I had the urge to write again, but was finding every reason not to or why I couldn't. Once I started writing again, I instantly started to feel connected to God. After all, he helps me write. Every time I am thinking about a topic to write about, I pray and ask God for guidance.

" Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ."-Colossians 3:23-24, ESV

Fellowship

"not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near."-Hebrews 10:25, ESV

As you can see from this scripture, fellowship is important. We should not neglect to meet with one another. At times, I have an issue with the topic of fellowship because it is sometimes used as a tool for condemning people who do not attend church. In no way will I condemn anyone. Fellowship is not just about going to church. Afterall, we the people are the church and we fellowship in the building(that is a different discussion for another day). You can have fellowship anywhere. Having a group of people over for Bible study is fellowship, yes, even of course attending church is fellowship, praying with one another is fellowship or just having spiritual encouragement over the phone is fellowship. We also know that "iron sharpens iron"(proverbs 27:17, ESV) so the more you are around people that are living for God, the more you all can sharpen each other. Sometimes when we neglect fellowship, we can get to the point where we feel like we are alone and that also can cause us to feel disconnected from God. Being around others can let us know that we are not alone and allows us to be there for others as well, which leads me to my last thing that we can do to reconnect with God.

Be a blessing to others

"And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me."-Matthew:25:40

This is actually one of my scriptures and to be honest, it was a scripture that I didn't really discover until later on in my spiritual journey. Whatever we do for someone else, we do for God. I think sometimes we forget that God needs us to. Its apart of Gods will for us to help or being a blessing to others. Feeding or giving back to the those in need, being there for someone going through a difficult situation, praying for others, etc. Those are all examples of being a blessing to someone. When we are bless others, God blesses us.

"Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again, tomorrow I will give it”—when you have it with you."-Proverbs 3:27-28, ESV
